"Tennessee company strives for sustainable packaging options"

This article I found is about a company called "Southern Champion Tray" which is about using eco-friendly product in packaging. They are using "Green Seal–certified cleaning products at their facilities, experimentation with biodiesel and cutting-edge fuel efficiency modifications to their trucking fleet, compostability testing on its products, and using motion sensors and skylights to reduce energy use in their warehouses." As it points out in the article as well, most people do not realize what goes into their packaging product, and all of the chemicals involved. This is a great way to get people aware. It could start making people think as well of what they can do differently to help the environment, since as it says in the aritlce, the green movement is all about asking "what can I do differently that I wasn't doing before?"

I really like the concept of changing what goes into our packaging, especially for the food service industry since we also throw so much of it out. If more companies do this, we have less trash that will harm the environment while using less chemicals while making our packaging.

  1. I really thought this article was informative. I never knew about "Greenwashing," and I myself have probably fallen into that trap, of not knowing if what i bought was actually eco friendly or not. I think that businesses shouldn't be able to trick us like that, and I'am glad that i am aware of this now. I hope more people will become aware of this too.

  2. The article's right. Most people only concentrate on the food they eat to be healthier -- no one thinks about the packaging & how much waste it produces. This was a big eye opener. Like Rachel said, I never really knew, or paid attention for that matter, what packaging is eco-friendly and what isn't. Good to see that SOME companies are actually trying to help improve our environment and reduce waste.

  3. Wow, I honestly have to say that I really never did consider that packaging could be an issue. This article was really shocking and really made me upset that some companies have been deceitful about the packaging that they use. It is good to know that there are some people out there that ae trying to get the word out about these poor practices. I would really like to see that bill go through that would establish a requirement for eco-labels on products that meet the U.S. Protection Agency standards.
