Quick Service going green!!
This article that i found was really interesting, because it's all about fast food restaurants making their buildings greener. The way they did this was add energy star kitchen appliances, which of course would help with energy in the building. Some places even got rid of indoor lighting and replaced it with sunlight. I really agree with this article, because it might help other quick service restaurants do the same, and really help save the environment. The one thing i noticed that they didn't tell us was what LEED was. Another reason i found this article to be so interesting was because I never knew that all these fast food restaurants were trying to be green, and actually being successful.

ReplyDeleteI think this article is a great idea. Not only are they going green with the food, but they are being eco-friendly at the same time. They are using eco-friendly lighting. I was also impressed that Starbucks wants "50 percent of the energy used at its stores to come from renewable sources." I also like that they are looking at the "overhaul the use of paper packaging." This could save the companies a lot of money and the customers might be more intrigued to go there.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see restaurants like these trying to go green. In my article, it talks about Starbucks changing their cups. But here it goes into changing equipment, and lighting, which will probably not only save money on bills for the business itself, but help the environment too. I'm interested to see what else QSR restaurants do in the furture to help out..
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kristin, If more resturants can hop onto making their resturants more energy efficien, and cut down costs I think it may pave the way for lower food prices due to the lowering of overhead coasts. also i feel customers might appreciate a "Green" resturant more especially now that everyone is concerned about it.
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting, and inspiring, to see that these quick-service restaurants are moving towards Going Green. I read an article a little while ago about the first LEED Denny's that opened up in Joliet in 2009. It seems that most people are concerned that the start-up costs of opening a "Green" restaurant would be astronomical, however, this article stated that the new Denny's was actually cheaper to build AND they are saving $10,000 in gas, electricity, and water then the regular Denny's restaurants. It is important that people become aware of these things because it can save not only money but also our environment!
