KFC in North Hampton, Mass. Going Green

In this article I found, it talks about a KFC/Taco Bell joint in Mass. introducing new equipment that will help our environment. They have recently installed the SolarWall System, which "is a solar air heating system that uses the sun’s energy to heat ventilation air for commercial and industrial buildings. It substantially reduces traditional heating fuel expenses and carbon dioxide emissions, requires no maintenance and lasts more than 30 years."
Each year, the system can displace about 9 tons of carbon dioxide from the earth's atmosphere -- thats about 270 tons of carbon dioxide that can be displaced throughout the 30 years this system will last.
This, yet again, shows the efforts that small, quick service restaurants are putting forth to help improve the environment we live in.

  1. when i think going green i rarely think quick service resturants. KFC and taco bell in particular. this article goes to show that my preconceived notions about them were wrong. and especially with going green I really enjoy seeing different restaurants doing their parts. and it impresses me more when quick service restaurants actually are willing to shell out the extra cash to go green as well

  2. I am really suprised by this, I wouldn't expect KFC to go green but that's a really good step in the right direction. They seem to be catching up with McDonalds and a lot of other QSR trying to go green. It's good to see though.

  3. I really like how KFC and other quick service restaurants are starting to go green with their buildings and equipment. They are really starting to set an example for other restaurants to start going green. I agree that they are catching up with mcdonald's. I really want to see a lot more QSR's going green as well.
